I urge the first lady Laura Bush to withhold her recent denials that her husband did not mislead the public on the violence in Iraq pending additional document declassification and investigation of the Iraq debacle.

It is becoming abundantly clear that the president, vice-president, and senior staff have misled the public about the entire war in Iraq. Beginning with the Robert Walpole¹ National Intelligence Estimate (NIE)² and the Paul Pillar³ CIA whitepaper "Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programs".

2. The 90 page NIE was delivered to Congress on October 1, 2002. It was read by very few of our congressional representatives before they voted to authorize the president to use force against Iraq.

It is very likely that the president, vice-president, and senior staff began misleading the public much sooner as they worked to ensure the NIE reflected the president's much earlier private decision to go to war against Iraq.
