UPDATE (December 22, 2006, 3:58am): Reuters reported today that Gao has been given a suspended sentence and is now free.
Epoch Times is reporting that the Chinese authorities are increasing their oppressive tactics on the family of jailed Chinese activist and human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng.
In the latest incident, described in a telephone call (WMA, 1M) between Gao's wife Geng He and activist Hu Jia1, the Chinese police have physically beaten Geng He.
If China wants the rest of the world to take it serious on issues of human rights they'll want to stop arresting those advocating for human rights in China, like Gao and Hu! They'll want to stop beating and harassing family members, too!
The United States must follow the example of Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper and publicly speak out against China’s human rights abuses.
