Charles "Cully" Stimson, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs, publicly suggested that the corporate clients of the law firms providing representation (usually pro bono) to the Guantanamo detainees should ensure they don't. In short Stimson is seeking to eliminate detainee representation! Evidently, it’s not enough for our government to truncate habeas corpus, rewrite the rules of evidence, stage the kangaroo military commissions, and eliminate vigorous detainee representation by military lawyers. | ![]() charles.stimson@osd.mil |
It now attempts to eliminate any detainee representation, including their courageous and patriotic civilian lawyers, too!
What’s the next governmental confidence building exercise - taunting and chanting Bush, Bush, Bush at the detainees' trial by kangaroo military commissions?

UPDATE: On January 16, 2007 Charles Stimson issues an apology for his remarks after strong criticism from the nation's law deans and professors.
"I apologize for what I said and to those lawyers and law firms who are representing clients at Guantanamo. I hope that my record of public service makes clear that those comments do not reflect my core beliefs,"
