United States Attorney General, Michael B. Mukasey on torture:
the ends justifies the means.
One might expect more reasoned, if unprincipled, statements and testimony from our United States Attorney General.
Mukasey's statements and testimony before the Judiciary Committee, with respect to waterboarding and torture, is little more than an unprincipled extension of the current administration's lawlessness and disregard for the rule of law.
Mukasey's statements and testimony ignore the fact that each CIA terror, torture and interrogation center is by definition torture. Nations that maintain or operate terror, torture, and interrogation centers are by definition torturing nations.
It's puzzling why we insist on incurring the enmity of the world and generating years of future ill-will and hatred by incrementally sliding toward the truth and continuing our torture?
Just stop torturing and operating all terror, torture, and interrogation centers, including Guantanamo! Then acknowledge and account for all torture. Acknowledge and account for all terror, torture, and interrogation centers, including the secret ones.
