It does not seem particularly useful or accurate for presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton to demagogue the thugs in Beijing for America’s stagnant and eventual decline in standard of living.
Shipping jobs, for which America no longer enjoys a comparative advantage, overseas is not the problem—failure to replace those jobs with next generation jobs and a complementary and commensurate workforce is the problem.
Unfortunately, wasting all our resources and time fighting wars preserving yesterday makes it’s very difficult or impossible to focus on tomorrow—you may win all the battles (although even that is unlikely), and lose the strategic war (growing standard of living).
We must reject any politician offering demagoguery instead of detailed plans for how they will develop tomorrow’s comparative advantage jobs and a growing standard of living—onshoring shoe and cloth manufacturing will not be in the plan!
A politician who demagogues Beijing is either extremely opportunistic or totally clueless about all aspects of the problem—neither attribute is useful in solving the problem.
