Great Nations Do Not Guantanamize Dissent

07/06/08

Chinese authorities have arbitrarily detained and imprisoned thousands of monks associated with three Tibetan monasteries, Drepung, Sera, and Ganden.

Guantanamizing the monks is inconsistent with the 2008 Beijing, China Olympic Games (奥运会), minimum obligations under international human rights conventions, and China’s future—great nations do not seek to kill, silence, imprison, or torture dissent—they compete with dissent1.

How ironic for the Chinese Communist Party to kill, silence, imprison, and torture its competition while exhorting the world to enjoy the competition of the 2008 Beijing, China Olympic Games.

Wonder if the world would recognize the 2008 Beijing, China Olympic Games gold metal winners who killed, silenced, imprisoned, or tortured their competition?

-----notes------

1. Leaders of competing nations very quickly learn to invest considerable resources to achieve a literate educated population.

China's ranking on the Human Development Index 2007/2008 is 81 of 177.
