The United States has conducted an unsuccessful test of the expensive and mostly useless experimental sea-based Mid-Course Missile Tracking Radar, SBX-1. The test was likely meant to calm anxious nations who may be targeted by Iranian missiles as diplomacy intensifies—diplomacy aimed at persuading Iran it's not in their interest to pursue or possess nuclear weapons. |  |
Both target and interceptor missiles functioned as intended, but the crucial sea-based-x-band radar SBX-1 did not guide the interceptor to collide with the target.
